Women’s Tennis Player of the Week: Valentina Abrile, Columbus State

Abrile was busy for Columbus State this week, winning four matches in both singles and doubles play to help the Cougars extend their eight-match winning streak. Playing in the third spot, Abrile won all of her singles matches in straight sets, including taking down PBC foes Edith Rueda Croda of Augusta and Emma Fleming of Georgia College. She was also dominant against Greta Walin of Southern Arkansas (6-2, 6-4) and Mayumi Saguchi of West Florida (6-1, 6-4). In doubles play, Abrile and Mariana Ramirez continued to hold down the top spot for Columbus State, dropping no more than three games in any of the four victories this week. The 44th-ranked tandem in the nation lost just four combined games in two PBC victories and was also impressive in the victories over SAU and UWF. The 2021 PBC Freshman of the Year is 10-5 in singles this season and 11-3 in doubles.
