Columbus State Wins PBC Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship!

COLUMBUS, GA – The Columbus State Cougars won the 2022 PBC women’s tennis tournament championship 4-0 over Flagler on Sunday in Columbus, Ga. The Cougars reclaim the mantle from Flagler, who won in 2021, with their fourth title in the last five years. With the win, CSU earns the PBC’s bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Cougars got off to a fast start in doubles with Sara Ramirez and Luciana Galves beating Addie Breunich and Florencia Massardo 6-0 at the third spot. Flagler pulled even as Luisa Hrda and Eden Schlagenhauf downed Mariana Ramirez and Valentina Abrile 6-1 at #1 doubles.

CSU won the point at second doubles as Agostina Bigotte and Neila Trklja beat Flagler’s Alessandra Traub and Anika Nissen, breaking serve in the last game for a 7-5 win and a 1-0 CSU lead.

The Cougars were able to carry that momentum into singles where CSU picked up two quick points. Bigotti swept Breunich 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles while Galves beat Massardo 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles.

CSU’s Mariana Ramirez clinched the championship at second singles, beating Schlagenhauf 6-2, 6-4 for the title.
