Flagler Women’s Tennis Sees Championship Run End on Wednesday

ALTAMONTE SPINGS, FLA - The 11th-ranked Flagler women’s tennis team saw their historic run towards a title come to a close on Wednesday with a 4-0 loss to #1-ranked Barry. Flagler was making the program’s first appearance in the NCAA National Quarterfinals after winning their round of 16 match on Tuesday. The Saints’ season comes to a close with a 19-8 record.

Flagler fought through doubles, but came up just shy as Luisa Hrda and Eden Schlagenhauf fell to Barry’s Deniz Khazan and Madeline Bosnjak 6-3 at #1 doubles. Alessandra Traub and Anika Nissen fell at second doubles to Barry’s Henel Scholsen and Jil Englemann 6-0. Florencia Massarda Brain and Addison Breunich were knotted up at third doubles 4-4 when the doubles point was one by the Buccaneers.

Singles play did not give the Saints time to recover as Schlagenhauf went down in straight sets to Engelmann at second singles and Brian fell to Bosnjak also in straight sets. Barry won their final point at third singles where Traub fell to Xiyao Wang in straight sets.

The loss brings an end to a season that saw Flagler reach the finals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, host and win the NCAA Southeast Regional and reach the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time.
