KANSAS CITY, MO - United Soccer Coaches announced the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's All-Americans on Thursday with a pair of University of North Georgia women's soccer player receiving the All-American designation. Maysoon El-Shami was selected a first team All-American while teammate Sierra Fowler collected 2nd team All-American honors. It is the first time that two UNG players have been named All-Americans in the same seaon by United Soccer Coaches.
El-Shami led the Nighthawks in scoring with 18 points on six goals and six assists. The Peach Belt Conference first team All-Conference selection led a balanced UNG offensive attack with a team-best 21 shots on goal and three game-winning goals.
In goal, Fowler was responsible for 12 shutouts in goal and anchored a Nighthawk defense that allowed a stingy 0.81 goals per game. The junior first team All-Conference selection was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Week on two different occasions.
The Nighthawks wrapped up one of the best seasons in program history with a record of 14-4-4, earning the first win in the NCAA tournament since 2019 and capturing the program's first outright PBC regular season championship.
This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
