Baseball Player of the Week: Derek Wylie, Columbus State

Wylie was solid in four games last week for the Cougars, hitting .550 with six RBIs. The junior right fielder from Warner Robins, Ga., hit .571 in a three-game series against Lander. He began his week with a 3-for-6 outing against Auburn-Montgomery, then went 3-for-5 in the opener against the Bearcats with a double and three RBIs. He collected two more hits in game two and went 3-for-5 in game three with a triple, driving in two more. For the week he had a .700 slugging percentage and .609 on-base percentage. Wylie currently leads the PBC in hits, runs scored and slugging percentage and is second in RBIs and third in batting average.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Cam Dimidjian, USC Beaufort

Dimidjian threw the first perfect game in USCB history on Saturday as 21 Claflin batters came to the plate and 21 went straight back to the dugout in a 10-0 Sand Shark win. It is only the second perfect game thrown in Peach Belt history and the first in a conference game. The sophomore lefty from Jefferson Hills, Pa., allowed the Panthers nothing as he struck out eight. He completed the game with 77 pitches thrown, getting 10 fly outs and three ground outs to go with his eight strikeouts. Dimidjian leads the PBC in opponent batting average and is second in ERA and ninth in strikeouts.

Baseball Freshman of the Week: John Raines, Georgia College & State University

Raines made two appearances in the series at Flagler this week, going a combined six innings with seven strikeouts, two hits and a single run. He threw two shutout innings Friday night with five whiffs for his first career save. He then added four more innings Sunday with just a single run allowed. He held batters to a .100 average for the weekend and walked only two. He moves into a tie for third in the PBC in saves is seventh in strikeouts and is 10th in the league in ERA.
