Baseball Player of the Week: Jeremy Begora, Young Harris


Begora was the driving force for the Mountain Lion offense in four games last week. The sophomore first baseman from Cartersville, Ga., hit .538 on the week with a double, a home run and five RBIs. He began his week with a 3-for-3 effort and four RBIs against Lincoln Memorial, then had another three-hit game in the second against #18 USC Aiken with a double and another RBI. He scored six runs on the week, at least one in each game, with an .846 slugging percentage and .588 on-base percentage. Begora is currently ranked second in the PBC in slugging percentage, third in OPS, fourth in RBIs and tied for second in home runs.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Rijnaldo Euson, Georgia Southwestern

Euson improved to 6-0 on the season as he pitched seven innings with only three hits allowed in a 3-1 win over Georgia College in the second game of the series. The sophomore from Haines City, Fla., allowed one earned run and four walks while striking out seven, holding the Bobcats to a .136 batting average. He retired the first six batters he faced in order and also retired the side in order in the seventh. Euson is one of three PBC pitchers leading the conference with a 6-0 record; he also leads the conference in strikeouts, is second in ERA and 10th in innings pitched.

Baseball Freshman of the Week: Will McClellan, Lander

McClellan was in the zone this past week as he recorded hits in all four games while recording multi-hit games in two games. The redshirt freshman recorded seven hits, five doubles, nine runs, eight RBI and drew two walks against Wingate and Claflin. The catcher from Anderson, S.C., hit .438 this past week while finishing with a .750 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. Against Wingate, McClellan had an RBI double and a walk while coming around to score twice; he then recorded six hits in the series with Claflin with four of those going for doubles. He had three doubles in the final game of the series with the Panthers with five RBI and three runs. Defensively, McClellan recorded 16 putouts and 2 assists with no errors. McClellan is currently second in the PBC in doubles, third in slugging percentage, fifth in runs and tied for sixth in home runs.
