Baseball Player of the Week: Jackson Hannon, USC Aiken
Hannon led the team with a .667 batting average. The senior outfielder from Lexington, S.C., accounted for 12 hits in 18 at bats with a team-best 12 runs and smacked a team-high three doubles. He led the squad with 15 total bases, an .833 slugging percentage and three steals. Hannon posted a .591 on-base percentage, garnered one walk and did not strike out. He was also perfect in the field with 10 putouts. Hannon started the week with a three-for-four effort with two RBI at Southern Wesleyan. He then went four-for-five with three RBI in the series-opening victory at USC Beaufort. Hannon went two-for-four with a double and four RBI in Saturday’s win over the Sand Sharks before finishing the week with three hits, including two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored in the victory over USC Beaufort in the series finale. He is currently ninth in the PBC in hitting, third in RBIs and tied for second in doubles.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Matthew Heard, North Georgia
Heard pitched a complete-game one-hitter as the Nighthawks blanked Augusta 9-0 in the second game of their conference series. The freshman righthander from Loganville, Ga., walked four and struck out five in going the distance, holding the Jaguars to a .033 batting average. He got stronger as the game went on, retiring the side in order in the seventh and ninth innings. Heard is currently second in the PBC in ERA and opponent batting average; is tied for fourth in innings pitched and tied for eighth in strikeouts.
Baseball Freshman of the Week: Justin Haskins, Flagler
Haskins batted .545, going 6-for-11 at the plate, with a double and three RBI in three games last week and got the win in relief after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings on the mound with two strikeouts against No. 12 Mount Olive. In the same game against the Trojans, The Suwanee, Ga., native collected three singles, drove in two runs and scored another. Haskins went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a run scored and one run batted in vs. Assumption.
