Baseball Player of the Week: Jeremy Begora, Young Harris

Begora earns his third weekly honor in the last four weeks after leading the Mountain Lions to four wins last week, including a sweep of #8 Columbus State. The junior first baseman hit .500 over four games with four home runs and 11 RBIs. In the three-game sweep of CSU, he went 6-for-11 with four homers and all 11 RBIs. He was 3-for-4 in game two with two home runs, both three-run shots, and seven RBIs. He had another three-run homer in game three. For the week he scored seven runs, had a 1.500 slugging percentage and made no errors in 40 chances at first with five double plays turned. Begora is currently second in the PBC in home runs and slugging percentage, third in RBIs and seventh in batting average and runs scored.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Gage Voorhees, Flagler

Voorhees pitched a nine-inning complete game as the Saints upended USC Beaufort 3-1. The senior righty from Springfield, Ohio, struck out a season-high 11 batters while allowing six hits, one walk and one earned run. He retired 16 of the first 18 batters he faced, including 12 in a row, with 14 ground outs on the day. The 11 strikeouts is tied for the second-most in a single game in the PBC this season. Voorhees is currently second in the PBC in innings pitched, seventh in strikeouts and 10th in ERA.

Baseball Freshman of the Week: Will McClellan, Lander

McClellan earns his third weekly award in the last four weeks with another tremendous outing. The catcher and outfielder from Anderson, S.C., hit .533 in four games last week with a double and five RBIs. He collected hits in all four games, going 5-for-11 in three conference games against Augusta. He went 3-for-5 in game two of that series, driving in three; he doubled and drove in another in the final game. He drew three walks for a .632 on-base percentage and had a 1.232 OPS. He also stole a base, scored two runs and had no errors in 24 chances, starting at catcher in all three games against Augusta. McClellan is third in the PBC in slugging percentage and OPS, fifth in on-base percentage, fourth in RBIs, third in doubles and tied for seventh in home runs.
