SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Flagler College Saints finished in second place at the NCAA women's cross country Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday morning, securing a spot to the national finals. Flagler's Taylor Stone won the race and led the Saints to 78 total points, finishing second to Wingate. Catawba claimed the third spot; all three will move on to the national finals on Saturday, Nov. 23, in Sacramento, Calif.
Stone becomes the first PBC woman to win the NCAA Regional since 2012. The senior from Largo, Fla., also won the PBC Championship two weeks ago. On Saturday, she ran the 6k in 21:04.5, finishing five seconds ahead of Wingate's Mia Cabrera to claim the title.
In all, Flagler placed four runners in the top 20. Monique Whiteman was 14th in a time of 22:04.5 while Enola Savel was 15th in 22:09.5 and Abigail Misch 19th in 22:19.9. Flagler returns to the national championship for the fifth time in program history; this will be their fourth trip in the last six years.
Augusta finished sixth in the team standings with 147 points. Emily McBride led the Jaguars in 16th place with a time of 22:10.8 with Madison Kennedy just behind in 17th in 22:17.0.
Other PBC teams in action were North Georgia in 11th, Georgia College & State University 14th, USC Aiken 19th, Lander 20th and Columbus State 25th.
