No. 50 GCSU rallies for 4-2 win over Augusta at PBC Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ga. | The Georgia College & State University women's tennis rallied to win four singles matches to defeat Augusta University 4-2 in the first round of the 2024 Peach Belt Conference Tournament Friday (April 26) morning at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

The 50th-ranked Bobcats improved to 12-10 and will advance to Saturday's (April 27) 10 a.m. semifinal match against No. 3-ranked and No. 1 seed University of North Georgia. The Jaguars fell to 11-7.

Augusta took the doubles point as they claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. GCSU's duo of Ashley Bentz and Shradha Chhabra earned a 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Chiara Santoro started the GCSU comeback with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and Jada Young gave the Bobcats a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. After a Jaguar win at No. 3 singles knotted the match at 2, GCSU reclaimed the lead as Ashton Morrison rallied to win a three-set decision - 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 - at No. 4 singles. The Bobcats clinched the win when Chhabra earned a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.

No. 8 Flagler shuts out Georgia Southwestern to advance at PBCs

COLUMBUS, Ga. – No.8 (Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Top 25) Flagler College rolled to a 4-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Tournament first round match Friday afternoon at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

Flagler improved to 13-4 overall while Georgia Southwestern had its season end at 3-11. The Saints face No. 10 Columbus State University in a semifinal match tomorrow at 10 a.m.

The Saints recorded the first team point after winning two doubles matches. Laura Jipescu and Toni Pfeiffer posted the first win, 6-1, over Makaina Griffin and Shy'Neshia Salter. Nadja Meier teamed with Charlotta Buss to win their match 6-0.

Singles ended quickly with Eryka Kruk, Pfeiffer and Meier all winning easily in straight sets.

CSU Blanks Lander in Opening Round of PBC Tournament

COLUMBUS - The 10th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team continued its impressive win streak with a commanding 4-0 victory against Lander University Friday in the 2024 Peach Belt Conference Tournament opening round at the John W. Walden Tennis Center. With this dominant performance, the third-seeded Columbus State (14-6, 5-1 PBC) Cougars sent home the sixth-seeded Bearcats of Lander University (3-14, 1-5 PBC).

The Cougars are set to face the second-seeded Flagler College Saints in the semifinals, starting at 10 p.m. at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
