LILBURN, GA -- Georgia Southwestern State University's Destiny Garrett has been named the WBCA/D2CIDA National Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Garrett wins the national award for the second time this season after posting the first triple-double in GSW school history. The graduate student from Bessemer, Ala., had 26 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists in a tough loss to conference rival Lander on Jan. 4. Over two games, she averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 12.0 assists. Her triple-double is one of five in NCAA Division II this season and the 14th in conference history. Her 14 assists in that game is also the most in a single game in DII this year; she also leads the nation in assists per game.
The WBCA/D2CIDA National Player of the Week is selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the Division II Conference Information Directors Association.
