LANDER RALLIES PAST NO. 2 AUGUSTA TO EARN SPOT IN PBC FINAL

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Third-seeded Lander survived a back-and-forth battle and defeated No. 2 seed Augusta 3-2 in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinal on Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gym. The Bearcats claimed the match 15-25, 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 15-11 to advance to the championship match for just the third time in program history.

Senior outside hitter Katie Miller fueled the victory with a match-high 24 kills and 27 digs, while sophomore Karson Browningadded 16 kills and hit .268. Setter Enisilina Savelio guided the offense with 48 assists and 22 digs, helping Lander recover from a slow start and take control of the match's momentum. After hitting under .100 in each of the first two sets, the Bearcats flipped the script in the third by recording a .375 hitting percentage with only one attack error. That efficiency shift proved to be a key turning point as Lander took a 2-1 lead. The Jaguars forced a decisive fifth set, but Lander responded by hitting .258 in the final frame while holding Augusta to just four kills. The Bearcats out-dug Augusta 111-107, with Miller, Savelio, and libero Emmi Cheek (26) combining for 75 of those digs. Lander also made timely plays at the net, recording six blocks led by Amelia May with four in the match.  Despite Augusta finishing with eight service aces, Lander managed the pressure by siding out consistently and capitalizing on extended rallies.

The Bearcats will face host and top-seeded Flagler College in Sunday's championship match at 2 p.m. as they look to capture the program's first-ever PBC Tournament title.
