PBC Players of the Week for Feb. 10

Women's Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week - Taylor Roth, Embry-Riddle (So., Minster, Ohio)

  • Finished in fifth place in the 800 at the Celebration Pointe Classic with a time of 2:12.38
  • That time is a personal-best, the fastest in the Peach Belt this season and set an NCAA provisional mark by nearly a half second
  • The four runners who finished ahead of her were all Division I...45 competitors were in the field

Field Athlete of the Week - Jade Nayap, Embry-Riddle (Fr., Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

  • Finished in fourth place in the high jump at the Celebration Pointe Classic
  • Cleared the bar at 1.62m on her first attempt, the 10th-best high jump in ERAU program history
  • Was the top DII athlete in a field of 27...finished at the same height as four DI jumpers

Men's Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week - John Carbone, Flagler (So., Spring Hill, Fla.)

  • Set a personal best with a time of 1:52.32 in the 800 meters at the Celebration Pointe Classic
  • Finished third of 74 runners, defeating nine DI runners in the process
  • That time is the best in the Peach Belt this season and just one-hundredth off the NCAA provisional mark

Field Athlete of the Week - Antonio Caito, Embry-Riddle (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.)

  • Finished in third place in the triple jump at the Celebration Pointe Classic
  • Soared 14.86 on his second attempt, one of the top 10 jumps in ERAU program history
  • Defeated 14 other competitors in the field and set another NCAA provisional mark

Women's Basketball

Player of the Week - Jada Warren, Georgia College & State University (Sr., F, Norcross, Ga.)

  • Helped lead the Bobcats to a pair of wins last week, averaging 16.0 rebounds per game while shooting 40% from the field
  • Had 14 rebounds in 30 minutes as GCSU defeated #5 North Georgia on the road...added 18 boards in a win over Flagler
  • Leads NCAA Division II in rebounding...became the GCSU all-time rebounding leader with 1,014 in her career, which is seventh in PBC history

Men's Basketball

Player of the Week - Jalen McCoy, USC Aiken (Sr., G/F, Raleigh, N.C.)

  • Led the Pacers to a pair of wins last week, averaging 26.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 62% from the floor
  • Scored 20 with six boards in a win over Flagler...had 33 and seven boards in a win at Augusta...added 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per game
  • Became the USCA all-time career leader (DII era) in points with 1,563 in his career..currently ranked third in the PBC in scoring, 10th in rebounding and seventh in field goal percentage

Women's Tennis

Player of the Week - Angelina Linnikova, North Georgia (Sr., Irkutsk, Russia)

  • Went 4-0 in combined singles and doubles play, all at the #1 spot, as #6 UNG defeated Erskine and Young Harris last week
  • Defeated YHC's Simone Mercier 6-0, 6-1 and Erskine's Hanna Vasconez 7-5, 6-2 in singles...won her doubles matches 6-2 and 6-0
  • Ranked #4 in singles by the ITA...is undefeated in both singles and doubles this spring...won 37 of 47 sets she played last week

Men's Tennis

Player of the Week - Lleyton Beasly, North Georgia (Fr., Athens, Ga)

  • Playing in his second singles match in his career, Beasly provided the final point in UNG's 4-3 win over Young Harris
  • Dropped the first set against Nills Vercruyssen 7-5, but rallied to take the second set 7-5 and the swept the third 6-0
  • Won the first singles match of his career

Softball

Player of the Week - Sydney Stewart, Flagler (Sr., SS, Forston, Ga.)

  • Stewart hit .500 with a 1.286 slugging percentage in four games last week...had two doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI
  • Homered in the opening game against Lenoir-Rhyne, driving in three...also hit a grand slam against LR in the third game of the tournament...had another home runs and three RBIs against Davis & Elkins
  • Leads the PBC in slugging percentage and is seventh in batting average, third in RBIs and second in home runs

Pitcher of the Week - Julianna Franklin, Columbus State (Sr., LHP, Leesburg, Ga.)

  • Went 2-0 with two wins against Union (Tn.), allowing no earned runs and only two total hits in 12 innings...threw a five-inning no-hitter in the second game
  • Held opponents to a .048 batting average with 14 strikeouts and one walk issued...threw only 59 pitches in the no-hitter with eight strikeouts
  • Tied for the league lead in wins...also ranked third in ERA, second in strikeouts, third in innings pitched and fifth in opponent batting average

Freshman of the Week - Carleigh Knowles, North Georgia (Fr., C, Hawkinsville, Ga.)

  • Hit .444 over four games last week with three doubles and four RBI as the Nighthawks went 3-1
  • Went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs against Lake Erie...also doubled, stole a base and drove in a run against West Florida
  • Tied for the PBC lead in doubles...tied for sixth in the conference in runs scored

Baseball

Player of the Week - Payton Palladino, Flagler (So., 3b, Davners, Mass.)

  • Hit .455 with a .727 slugging percentage, a home run and seven RBIs in a three-game road sweep of Saint Leo
  • Went 3-for-4 in the opener with four RBIs...hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh that proved to be the difference in the 8-5 win...went 2-for-4 in the second game with three more driven in
  • Currently tied for second in the PBC in RBIs...ranked sixth in batting average, fifth in on-base percentage and eighth in OPS

Pitcher of the Week - Will Sims, Georgia College & State University (Sr., RHP, McDonough, Ga.)

  • Made two relief appearances last week, pitching 5.0 innings in total with one hit and one earned run allowed...struck out eight with no walks issued
  • Pitched three hitless innings against Southern Wesleyan in a 9-6 loss, striking out four...pitched two innings against Eckerd, giving up a solo home run and striking out four
  • Did not record a decision in his outings, but lowered his season ERA to 1.50 and his opponent batting average to .095...has eight strikeouts in six innings of work this season with two hits allowed

Freshman of the Week - Caleb Miele, Georgia College & State University (Fr., C, Brasleton, Ga.)

  • Was inserted into the starting lineup in the first two games against Eckerd, hitting .833 with a 1.000 slugging percentage and five RBIs
  • Went 2-for-3 on Friday with a double and three RBIs...went 3-for-3 on Saturday with two more RBIs...drew two walks and did not strike out
  • The at-bats were the first of his career

Men's Golf

Golfer of the Week - Oscar Abrahamsson, USC Aiken (Sr., Gothenburg, Sweden)

  • Finished in a tie for first place at the Bearcat Spring Invitational, shooting rounds of 71-73-69 to finish three-under 213
  • Began the final round five strokes behind Lenoir-Rhyne's Holt Allison and two behind Catawba's Paul Esnault...his final round 69 was one of three rounds in the 60s over the final 18
  • Helped the Pacers to a third-place team finish...ranked in the PBC's top 10 in stroke average

Men's Lacrosse

Offensive Player of the Week - Zane Dalpe, Lander (Sr., Attack, Windsor, Ontario)

  • Scored five goals with three assists for eight points in the Bearcats' 26-9 win over Emmanuel
  • Took only six shots in the game with five going for goals, a .833 shot percentage...also had one caused turnover
  • Currently ranked second in the PBC goals per game and assists per game...also second in the league in points per game

Defensive Player of the Week - Alex Egorshin, Montevallo (Jr., GK, Hoover, Ala.)

  • Had 20 saves and 13 ground balls in a pair of wins last week for a 4.80 goals against average and .769 saves percentage
  • Played all 60 minutes and made 19 saves in a 13-5 win over Mars Hill...set a career-high with 12 ground balls...played 15 minutes in a 27-4 rout of Emory & Henry, allowing only one goal with one save
  • Currently second in the PBC in goals allowed average and saves per game...also sixth in the league in ground balls
