Saints down the Eagles to advance to the elite eight

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 8-ranked (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College women's tennis team defeated No. 41 Universtiy of Charleston (W.Va.) 4-0 this morning to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis National Championship at Sanlando Park.

For the third time in four years, the Saints, the No. 5-seed, advanced to the "elite eight" and moved to a 22-5 record. This record tied the program's highest win percentage in the DII era with a .815, previously set during the 2022-23 season. Charleston dropped to 21-5. The Saints will return to the court tomorrow to face Peach Belt Conference rival and No. 4-ranked University of North Georgia at 9 a.m.

The doubles point came down to the wire as both the Saints and Golden Eagles split the first two matches. Laura Jipescu and Adela Latalova led the Saints to the first win of the day, defeating Michelle Connor and Sofia Krasikova 6-3. The deciding match came from Eryka Kruk and Sofia Balsera who defeated Harriet Glaves and Riva Hondiashvii, 7-5.

Singles was much more dominant for the Saints. Latalova kicked things off with a strong 6-0 and 6-2 win over Michelle Connor. No. 8 Heimen followed up with two 6-2 sets against Sara Martinez. The clinching point came from Kruk who played against Filippa Larsson. Kruk sent the Saints to the quarterfinals with a 6-3 and 6-1 victory.
