No. 8 Flagler falls in semifinals to No.1 Barry

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The No. 8 (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College women's tennis team dropped their semifinal match of the NCAA National Championship to No. 1 Barry University 4-1 this morning at Sanlando Park.

The Saints capped off the year at 23-6 while the Buccaneers moved up to 25-1. Barry advances to the national championship match on Sunday.

The Saints dropped a 6-3 match at No. 3 after dropping their first match on No. 2. The No. 3-ranked tandem of Dana Heimen and Anastasia Nikolova had their match go unfinished against No. 15 Ailen Crespo and Andrea Di Palma. Before the stoppage, Heimen was up to deliver what could have been the final serve of their match, as the Saints were up 5-3 (40-30).

In singles the Saints faced five nationally ranked Buccaneers. No. 8 Heimen had the tall task to take on No. 5 Alina Michalitsch. Among the other ranked Buccaneers was the Nos. 15, 22, 31 and 52 in the nation. Prior to the clinch, Heimen capped off her career as a Saint with a 6-3 and 6-2 win over Michalitsch. She finished the season with a 31-9 record in singles, which included a 20-6 mark in the spring and a 9-4 record against nationally-ranked opponents.
