PBC Women’s Tennis Quarterfinals Recap

The PBC Women's Tennis Tournament got off to a hot start today with the quarterfinals. Each of the top four seeds advance to tomorrow's semifinals with dominant victories. The semifinals are set for 9:00am in Columbus as #1 Columbus State will face #4 Middle Georgia, and #2 Flagler will face #3 North Georgia.
 



#1 COLUMBUS STATE 4-0 #8 GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN
COLUMBUS STATE ROLLS TO VICTORY OVER GSW IN PEACH BELT QUARTERFINALS

COLUMBUS – The top-seeded Columbus State women's tennis team rolled to a 4-0 victory over eighth-seeded Georgia Southwestern on Friday morning in the Quarterfinal round of the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Championship at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

The Cougars opened doubles play with back-to-back 6-0 wins at Nos. 3 and 1, respectively.

Grad student Annie Adams and junior Maria Markosov won on court three before the all-conference duo of (49) senior Laura Pesickova and freshman Isabell Ek gave CSU a 1-0 lead with a victory on court one.

 In singles play, freshman Claudia De Lucas secured the team's second point after her opponent was forced to retire in the first set at No. 2, while fellow freshman Finley Jeffers collected a 6-0, 6-0 win in the sixth flight.

Markosov clinched the match decision for Columbus State at No. 5 with her own 6-0, 6-0 shutout.

KNIGHTS DEFEAT BOBCATS IN PEACH BELT QUARTERFINALS

COLUMBUS - The Knights headed out to Columbus, Georgia on Friday, April 24th as they were set to play in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Knights came into the tournament as the 4-seed and were set to face the 5-seed Bobcats of Georgia College. The Knights and Bobcats played a very close match earlier in the season with the Knights coming out on top 4-1 and they looked to have a similar result.

The Knights got off to a hot start as the team of Lucile Gence and Irina Furtuna won the #3 doubles match 6-0 and the team of Agustina Olivero and Ainhoa Meili Fernandez del Moral won the #1 doubles match 6-2 to give the Knights the first point of the match. The Knights lost the lead after the Bobcats won the #5 singles match to tie the match at 1-1. Wins by Aya El Marrasse Zarioui in the #2 singles match and Tamanna Takoria in the #6 singles match, both by a score of 6-2, 6-2, put the Knights in position to take the match and a 6-4, 6-3 win in the #3 singles match by Lucile Gence sealed the win as the Knights came away with a 4-1 victory.

#3 NORTH GEORGIA 4-0 #6 LANDER
NIGHTHAWKS ADVANCE TO PBC SEMIFINALS WITH 4-0 SWEEP OF LANDER

COLUMBUS -The University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team opened Peach Belt Conference tournament play with a 4-0 victory over Lander in Friday's quarterfinal matchup.

The No. 3-seed Nighthawks secured the early advantage by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Emily Bush and Linn Goerdes rolled to a 6-0 decision at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 21-ranked tandem of Anastasiia Opolska and Olesya Stokusova clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 1. The No. 3 doubles match featuring Sofia Giraldo and Victoria Niox-Chateau was tied 3-3 when play was halted.

North Georgia carried that momentum into singles, winning three straight matches to secure the sweep. Sofia Giraldo picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, followed by a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory from Bush at No. 5. Victoria Niox-Chateau sealed the match for the Nighthawks at No. 6 singles, battling to a 7-6, 6-2 win.

Several other matches were left unfinished once the team result was decided. No. 18-ranked Opolska was locked in a third set at No. 1 after splitting the first two sets, while No. 34-ranked Stokusova trailed in her match at No. 2. Goerdes was on the verge of closing out her match at No. 4, leading late in the second set after taking the opening frame.

With the win, North Georgia advances to the PBC Tournament semifinals, where the Nighthawks will face Flagler on Saturday at 10 a.m.

 

#2 FLAGLER 4-1 #7 AUGUSTA
SAINTS DEFEAT JAGUARS TO ADVANCE TO PBC SEMIFINALS 


COLUMBUS- The second-seeded Flagler women's tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over #7 Augusta on Friday afternoon in the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Quarterfinals at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

A hard fought battle at doubles helped the Saints secure the early advantage by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Lea Jakic and Eryka Kirk claimed the point at No. 2, while Augusta's Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio claimed the point at No. 3, leaving the deciding points on court 1. Flagler's Elena Ondobo and Marie Fairier claimed the 7-6 (7-5) decision to claim the doubles point. 

Ondobo brought that momentum onto the court where she secured a 6-2, 6-0 win on court two. Augusta's Luciana Bejarano claimed the win on court three with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Sofia Balsera claimed the game on court four with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Lea Jakic secured the victory for the Saints with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court five. 

With the win, Flagler advances to the PBC Tournament semifinals, where they will face North Georgia on Saturday at 10 a.m.
