Georgia Southwestern, Columbus State, USCB's Octavio Laurent Punch Their Tickets To NCAA Men's Golf Championship

Georgia Southwestern and Columbus State men's golf teams punched their tickets to the NCAA National Championships following their performances at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional this week. USC Beaufort's Octavio Laurent also secured his spot at Nationals as an individual for his performance. The NCAA National Championship is set for May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder, Nev.

The top seven teams in the field along with the top two individual not on an advancing team advance. Nova Southeastern won the regional with a score of 24-under, followed by West Florida in second at 18-under, and Lee in third at 16-under. 

Georgia Southwestern finished in fourth place with a score of fourteen under for the tournament as a team. The Canes carded rounds of 9-under, 4-under and 1-under. The Canes were led by Sam Brown, who finished tied fifth individually with a score of eight-under for the tournament. Brown tied the Valdosta Country Club tournament record with a 5-under-par 67 in the opening round, a mark previously achieved just five times in tournament competition. Brown carded a second round score of 2-under and a final round 1-under. 

Columbus State finished in sixth place with a score of four-under for the tournament as a team. The Cougars carded rounds of 3-under, 3-under, and 2-over to finish inside the cutline. William Partner led Columbus State individually, tying for 18th at 2-under par. Partner opened with a 1-over round before firing a 3-under second round and closing with an even-par final round.

USC Beaufort placed ninth overall, and were led by Octavio Laurent, who finished fourth individually. USCB completed the three rounds with a score 3-over. Laurent led the way for the Sand Sharks, finishing with a three-round total of 205 (69-70-66), good for 11-under par. He continued climbing the leaderboard on the final day by shooting a 66 (-6), earning a fourth-place finish and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Championship. In the third round, Laurent recorded seven birdies and 10 pars. Overall, he totaled 14 birdies, 34 pars, and one eagle during the tournament.

Flagler ended the tournament in fourteenth with a score of 16-over, USCA finished in fifteenth with a 21-over score and North Georgia finished in sixteenth with a 22-over score for the tournament. 

With their finishes, Columbus State, Georgia Southwestern and USCB's Octavio Laurent advance to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship, where they will compete May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
