PBC Player of the Year Tucker Greer

AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has released the 2021 baseball All-Conference team. Young Harris’ Tucker Greer was named the PBC Player of the Year while UNC Pembroke’s Bucky Bonynge and Georgia Southwestern’s Tucker Smith were the co-Pitchers of the Year. Columbus State’s Isaac Bouton was named the Freshman of the Year and UNCP’s Paul O’Neil the Coach of the Year. North Georgia’s Nik Leveinsteins was named the winner of the Elite 16 Award presented by EAB.

Player of the Year – Tucker Greer, Young Harris

  • A senior outfielder from Paris, Ky.
  • Started all 41 games for the Mountain Lions, hitting .413 with 14 doubles, 20 home runs, 62 RBIs and a .901 slugging percentage
  • Ranked second in NCAA Division II in home runs and runs scored, third in total hits, fourth in RBIs and ninth in slugging percentage
  • Led or tied for the lead in the PBC in all above categories and was third in on-base percentage, sixth in doubles, second in triples
  • Twice named the PBC Player of the Week and the National Hitter of the Week, he had 20 games with two or more hits, started the season with a 26-game hitting streak and was held without a hit only four times in 41 games
  • Becomes the first Young Harris baseball player to win any of the PBC’s major post-season awards

co-Pitcher of the Year - Bucky Bonynge, UNC Pembroke

  • A junior righthander from Sarasota, Fla.
  • Made 13 starts in the regular season with a 6-2 overall record and 3.00 ERA in 78.0 innings of work with 81 strikeouts
  • Was 5-1 against conference opponents with a 3.03 ERA and held conference opponents to a .222 batting average
  • Currently ranked fourth in the PBC in ERA, third in strikeouts, second in innings and tied for third in wins
  • Becomes the third Brave to be named the PBC Pitcher of the Year, the first since Ethan Carter in 2013

co-Pitcher of the Year – Tucker Smith, Georgia Southwestern

  • A senior righthander from Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
  • Becomes the third PBC pitcher in league history to repeat as the PBC Pitcher of the Year after winning in 2019; the first to do it since FMU’s Dylan Owen in 2006 and 2007
  • Made 11 starts this season with a 4-5 record and 2.99 ERA, 87.1 innings of work with 90 strikeouts while holding batters to a .184 average
  • Leads the PBC in innings pitched and opponent batting average and is second in strikeouts and ERA
  • A two-time PBC Pitcher of the Week this season, he leads the PBC and is ranked fifth in NCAA Division II with five complete games this season

Freshman of the Year – Isaac Bouton, Columbus State

  • A freshman infielder from Marietta, Ga.
  • Started in all 41 games so far for the Cougars, hitting .333 with 17 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 42 RBIs
  • Twice named the PBC Player of the Week during the season, he is currently 10th in the PBC with a .626 slugging percentage, tied for fourth in runs scored and tied for seventh in hits
  • Leads the Peach Belt and is ranked 19th in NCAA Division II in doubles
  • Becomes the second Cougar to ever be named the PBC Freshman of the Year, the first since Brad Bouras in 1998

Elite 16 Award Presented by EAB – Nik Levensteins, North Georgia

  • A sophomore from Arvada, Colo., with the highest cumulative GPA of any player competing in the PBC Tournament
  • A PBC Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar who has also been named to the PBC Team of Academic Distinction and received the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award
  • On the field he played in all 43 games, hitting .351 with 19 home runs and 62 RBIs
  • The PBC Player of the Week on Feb. 9, he is currently tied for the league lead with 62 RBIs and tied for third in home runs; also ranked in the PBC’s top 10 in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and runs scored
  • Carries a 3.92 GPA and becomes the first UNG baseball player to win the Elite 16 Award

Coach of the Year – Paul O’Neil, UNC Pembroke

  • Currently in his 21st season as the head coach of the Braves, he led the team to their first PBC regular-season championship in 2021
  • UNCP was 25-8 in conference play this season, setting a program record for conference wins and were the only PBC team ranked in the USBWA top 25 for the final six weeks of the season
  • UNCP led the PBC in hits and strikeouts and are ranked in the top three in batting average, runs scored and stolen bases
  • Becomes the first UNC Pembroke baseball coach to be named the PBC Coach of the Year
