Lander's Thompson and Glanton named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

GREENWOOD – Marshall Thompson and Roury Glanton of the Lander baseball team were named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II baseball team on Wednesday.

Thompson and Glanton mark the first CoSIDA Academic All-American selections for Lander since Claes Persson from the men's tennis team was named back in 1997.

Sixteen of the 33 members of the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Baseball teams have at least a 3.80 GPA, with eight student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 12 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.71.

Both Thompson and Glanton were named to the CoSIDA 2020-21 Academic All-District® team and Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction earlier this season. The pair also finished with a cumulative GPA of 4.0.

Thompson led the Bearcats with an 8-4 record over 82 innings of work this past season. Finishing with 110 strikeouts, Thompson set a new program record for single-season strikeouts. Thompson also ranks third for career strikeouts with 191 and tied the program record for single-game strikeouts (13) multiple times the past season. He was also just one of 18 pitchers to strike out 100 or more batters and one of nine to strike out 110 or more among Div. II pitchers.

Glanton led the Bearcats in hits (53), home runs (11) and RBI (34) the past season. In 39 games played, Glanton also had 10 doubles, three triples, 18 walks and six stolen bases. He was also 15th in the PBC for batting average (.344), 22nd for total hits, 10th for home runs and 26th for RBI.
