PBC Men’s Golf Tournament to Begin Friday

ST. SIMONS, GA – The 30th Peach Belt Conference men’s golf tournament will begin this Friday, April 15, at the Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons, Ga. All nine conference teams will convene for the tournament with 18 holes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tee times and pairings will be announced on Thursday through the Golfstat portal which will also house live scoring and can be found here.


The 2022 event may be among the most competitive the PBC has ever had with five teams ranked in the Bushnell/GCAA Top 25 and six in the Golfstat Top 25 Relative Ranking. 24 PBC players are also ranked among the top 100 in the Golfstat player rankings.

  • USC Aiken is ranked #6 in the nation in the latest GCAA coaches poll and the Golfstat ranking. The Pacers have the lowest team stroke average in the PBC at 287.22 which, if the season ended today, would be the second-lowest team average in PBC history. Playing one of the toughest schedules in Division II, USCA has five top-five finishes in nine events this season with a pair of second-place finishes.

    Leo Johansson has played every round for USCA this season and has four top-10s with three top-five’s (all second-place finishes). He leads the PBC with a 70.67 stroke average. Leonardo Bono has three top-10s as does Bjorn Rosengren.

  • North Georgia won both the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate and the Hurricane Invitational and enter the PBC Tournament ranked #7 by the GCAA and #8 by Golfstat. The Nighthawks will be looking for their first PBC championship this weekend and are serving as the tournament hosts at Sea Palms Resort. UNG is second in the PBC in team stroke average and have five top-five results overall on the season.

    Evan Thompson joined the UNG team in January and won his first event at the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate. He also finished in the top 10 at the Hurricane Invitational and leads the team in stroke average. Stephen Kinsel won the Tennessee River Rumble two weeks ago, one of his three top-10 finishes on the season. Noah Dedicker also has three top-10s and two top-five results.

  • Georgia Southwestern made history last spring, becoming the first PBC team to compete for a national championship since the match play format was introduced at the NCAA Tournament in 2012. The Hurricanes have carried that momentum into the 21-22 season and are ranked #9 by the GCAA and #10 by Golfstat. GSW won the Motor City Preview last fall and have finished in the top five in six of their nine events this season, including their last outing at the Argonaut Invitational.

    Seven different Hurricane golfers have a top-10 individual result this season. Erik Fogel has played the last four events this spring and leads the team with a 72.00 stroke average, sixth in the PBC. Simon Estrada had played in 23 of GSW’s 26 rounds and has three top-10s and one top-five. Nicolas Escobar, Chase McLain and Payne Sells have also captured top-five individual results.

  • Lander finished in third place at the 2021 PBC Championships, their best result since 2017. The Bearcats have their sights set on their first-ever title this year after winning the Copperhead Championship last fall and finishing in second place twice more. Ranked #10 in the nation by the GCAA and #11 by Golfstat, the Bearcats have finished in the top five in five of their 10 events this season.

    Four different Lander golfers have top-five individual results with Hugo Lari, Maxime Legros and Linus Jonsson capturing two or more. Lari leads the team and is fifth in the PBC in stroke average while Legros is seventh in the league in stroke average and has first at par or better in 17 of his 27 rounds this year.

  • Columbus State has four top-five finishes this season including second place at the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate and third at the Cougar Invitational. Ranked #18 by the GCAA and #20 by Golfstat, CSU also had top-five finishes at the Matlock Collegiate Classic and the Hurricane Invitational.

    2019 PBC Player of the Year Jordan Doull returns for his final PBC Tournament. The senior won the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate and has four top-10s with three top-five finishes this year and is ranked fourth in the PBC in stroke average. Martin Gruendemann has a top-10 for CSU while Arran Kanth and Eric Wowor both average under 74 strokes per round.

  • Clayton State has finished outside of the top 10 in only two of their eight tournaments this season. The Lakers were fifth at the Bearcat Classic and fourth at the Bobcat Invitational, both events last month. Ranked #24 in the latest Golfstat rankings, the Lakers are fifth in the PBC in team stroke average.

    Nico Cabello was named the last PBC Player of the Week for the 21-22 season after finishing in second place at the Argonaut Invitational, one of his two top-five performances this season. Augusto Olivia has two top-10s and a top five while Daniel Medellin also has a top five this season.

  • Flagler finished in second place at the Jay Jennison Cup and The Trojan and have two other top-five results on the season. The Saints have not finished outside of the top six in their last three events heading into the PBC Championship and look to repeat their 2019 league championship.

    Franco Piovano won The Trojan three weeks ago, one of his two top-five performances on the season. Mauro Baez has six top-10s in 11 events this year including second at The Trojan and third at the Jennison Cup. Baez is second in the PBC in stroke average at 71.54 with 11 rounds at par or better.

  • Young Harris is the defending PBC Tournament champion, winning their first-ever league title last season by seven strokes. The Mountain Lions will look to Laurens Schulze-Doering to lead them this weekend. He leads the team in stroke average and finished in fourth place at the Bobcat Invitational.

  • Georgia College finished in the top 10 at the South/Southeast Super Region Preview and the Matlock Collegiate Classic. Jacob Hatter leads the team in stroke average while Isaac Samples has a top-five finish at the Super Preview. He also has a team-best six rounds of par or better this season.
