Men's Basketball
Player of the Week - Tyler Johnson, USC Aiken
Johnson was huge when the Pacers needed him the most, averaging 18 points and 9 rebounds per game as USCA beat North Georgia and Lander to win the PBC Championship. The junior guard from Athens, Ga., scored 25 with 10 boards on the road at UNG, shooting 53% from the field. Had 11 points with eight boards against Lander as the Pacers claimed the regular-season title and #1 seed for the tournament. Johnson is eighth in the PBC in scoring, ninth in rebounding, eighth in field goal percentage, sixth in made three-pointers and second in steals.
Women's Basketball
Player of the Week - Letiya Reeves, Columbus State
Reeves came up big in two wins for the Cougars, averaging 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The sophomore guard from Newnan, Ga., opened with 11 points and four boards against USC Beaufort, then exploded for 32 points and nine boards at GCSU. The 32 points is the second-highest single game total in the PBC this season (behind her 39 in January). Reeves is currently second in the PBC in scoring, eighth in field goal percentage, leads the conference in steals and is 11th in blocks.
Men's Golf
Player of the Week - Mateo Quiroga, Georgia Southwestern
Quiroga finished in a tie for first place at the Battle in the Desert in Borrego Springs, Calif. The sophomore from Buenos Aires, Argentina, fell in a playoff to Simon Bjorken of Cal Stat Monterey Bay, but finished the tournament at five-under 211 after rounds of 69-73-69. He was the only player in the field to shoot two rounds in the 60s. Quiroga played the Par 5 holes at 7-under for the event which ranked third in the field and the Par 4 holes at 1-under which was a stroke behind the leaders in that category. Quiroga and teammate Jack Tharrington drained two eagles apiece during the tournament to tie for the lead in eagles made. He earns his first top-five result of the season.
Women's Golf
Player of the Week - Ellie Rippee, North Georgia
Rippee had the best tournament of her career while helping the No. 25 Nighthawks to a third place finish, their best of the spring, at the Low Tide Intercollegiate last week. The junior from McKinney, Texas shot a career-best four-under-par 68 in her second round to end day one in a tie for first place at four-under. A 74 in round three that included back-to-back birdies on the front nine kept Rippee in the lead as she finished the tournament in a tie for first at two-under. Her total score of 214 is a personal tournament best for the junior and marks the first collegiate win of her career. She cracked the PBC top 10 with a 76.22 stroke average.
Baseball
Player of the Week - Win Johns, Columbus State
Johns was unstoppable over five games last week, hitting .667 with a 1.278 slugging percentage, three home runs and seven RBIs. The senior outfielder from Savannah, Ga., went 4-for-7 in two games against West Florida with two doubles and three RBIs. He hit .727 in a three-game series against North Georgia, hitting two home runs in the opener. He went 3-for-3 in games two and three, driving in a run in each. Johns is currently third in the PBC in batting average, second in slugging, leads the conference in hits and is tied for third in home runs and tied for sixth in RBIs.
Pitcher of the Week - Matt Garcia, USC Aiken
Garcia was throwing fire in his lone start of the week against Claflin, striking out 12 of the 20 batters he faced with four hits and one earned run allowed. The sophomore from Louisville, Colo., pitched 5.1 innings to get the win, allowing only four hits and one walk. The 12 stikeouts is the second-highest in a single game in the PBC this season. Garcia improves to 2-0 on the year with 17 strikeouts in 12 innings of work.
Freshman of the Week - Braeden Smith, Georgia College & State University
Smith hit .500 over four games last week with two home runs and nine RBIs. The freshman infielder from Statham, Ga., was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs against Mount Olive, then hit .545 in a three-game series against Augusta. He homered and had three RBIs in the opener, doubled and drove in another in game two and homered again in game three with three more RBIs. He had a 1.071 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage, stealing a base. Smith is currently third in the PBC in RBIs and tied for third in doubles.
Softball
Player of the Week - Addie Reynolds, USC Beaufort
Reynolds brought the power in a three-game series against Lander, hitting .750 with an eye-popping 2.000 slugging percentage in three games. The junior catcher from Rincon, Ga., went 3-for-3 in the opener with a double, a home run and four RBIs. She blasted two homers in the third game for five RBIs. She drew four walks in the three games for a .833 on-base percentage. Reynolds is currently 10th int he PBC in slugging percentage, ninth in OPS and tied for ninth in RBIs.
Pitcher of the Week - Tybee Denton, North Georgia
Denton went 2-0 in her two appearances last week, pitching 11 total innings with 18 strikeouts and one earned run allowed. The senior from Homer, Ga., pitched a complete-game shutout in the second game of a double header on Saturday against USC Aiken, going seven innings with just six hits allowed. In that same game, she recorded 10 strikeouts without allowing a single walk. The performance marks the fourth time this season and ninth time in her career in which she's recorded double digit strikeouts in a game. It's also the second time in her career that she's done so without surrendering a walk in the same game. Denton now ranks No. 3 in NCAA Div. II in fewest hits allowed per seven innings (2.4). She now owns a 0.73 ERA this season.
Freshman of the Week - Tagen Levao-Maisonet, North Georgia
Levao-Maisonet was an RBI machine in No. 1 UNG's first road series of the season at USC Aiken. In three games the freshman infielder from McDonough, Ga., totaled five RBIs on three hits. Levao-Maisonet had a pair of extra base hits with a double and a triple against the Pacers. The triple was the first of her career for the redshirt freshman who has started 11 of the Nighthawks' 21 games this season.
Women's Tennis
Player of the Week - Nikoline Gullacksen, Columbus State
Gullacksen went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles in two wins for the Cougars last week. The sophomore from Helsingor, Denmark, defeated Valdosta State's Aneta Poborilova 6-2, 6-2 and Montevallo's Claire Jaramba 6-0, 6-2, both at #2. She partnered with Mariana Ramirez to beat the Montevallo team of Podskubkova/Hartlohner 6-3 and Valdosta's Fedorova/Hanakova 7-5, both at #1.
Men's Tennis
Player of the Week - Ilian Borlee, Flagler
Borlee sent 2-0 in singles play last week, picking up a win over a nationally-ranked player. The sophomore from Brussels, Belgium, beat #30 Pavlos Parson of #13 Washburn 6-3, 6-3 and then beat Charleston (W.V.) Farhaan Patrawala 6-1, 6-1. He lost his only doubles outing to Washburn's #2 team. Borlee is now 5-1 in dual match singles this season and 4-1 in doubles.
Men's Lacrosse
Player of the Week - Grant Sanders, Shorter
Sanders scored 11 total points over two games as the Hawks won twice more to improve to 7-1 on the season. The sophomore midfielder from Acworth, Ga., scored two goals with three assists in a 16-6 win over Emmanuel, then had four goals and two assists in a five-point win over Thomas More. He took 15 combined shots on the week, nine on goal, with three ground balls and one caused turnover. Sanders now has 20 assists on the season which leads the Peach Belt and is tied for the most assists in NCAA Division II. He is also second in the PBC and tied for sixth nationally with 21 goals.
