PBC Players of the Week for Feb. 3

Baseball

Player of the Week - Capers Molinaroli, USC Aiken (Sr., 1b/C, Summerville, S.C.)

  • Hit .500 with a 1.071 slugging percentage in three games against Mars Hill on opening weekend...had two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs
  • Tied a USCA single-game record with five hits in the season opener, adding two doubles and a home run for five RBIs in that win
  • Homered again in the final game as USCA won 7-5...one of two PBC players with two home runs to begin the season...leads the PBC in slugging percentage

Pitcher of the Week - Pierce Williams, North Georgia (Grad., Douglasville, Ga.)

  • Threw five no-hit innings against Lincoln Memorial on opening day as UNG won 9-1
  • Walked two and struck out seven, retiring the last seven batters he faced in order
  • Was the only PBC pitcher with at least five innings to not allow a hit

Freshman of the Week - Hunter Thompson, USC Aiken (Fr., INF, Evans, Ga.)

  • Hit .583 with a .750 slugging percentage in his first three collegiate games...had two doubles and three RBIs
  • Had multiple hits in all three games against Mars Hill, going 2-for-3 in the opener with two walks and two RBIs...went 3-for-5 inthe second game with a double and another RBI...2-for-4 in the third game with a double
  • Struck out only once in 12 at-bats and had a .643 on-base percentage...currently third in the PBC in batting average, fourth in hits and tied for third in doubles

Softball

Player of the Week - Sydnee Reaves, North Georgia (Jr., OF, Ashland, Ala.)

  • Hit .471 with a .765 slugging percentage in four games in her Nighthawk debut...hit a home run in her first at-bat at #8 UNG
  • Collected hits in all four games at the Gulf Shores Invitational, going 3-for-4 against Florida Tech, 2-for-4 against West Alabama and 2-for-5 against Barry
  • Had four total RBIs with doubles against Barry and Union...scored four runs including the game-winner against Tech...UNG went 3-1 at the event

Pitcher of the Week - Cierra Kinlaw, USC Beaufort (Sr., Claxton, Ga.)

  • Went 2-0 with a save in three appearances on opening weekend, pitching 13.1 innings with two earned runs allowed and 10 strikeouts with a 1.05 ERA...held batters to a .125 average
  • Pitched a complete-game (five inning) win over Anderson in the opener, allowing two runs with no walks and five strikeouts....got a save in the second game with 1.1 innings of one-hit relief
  • Pitched a seven-inning, complete-game, two-hit shutout against Converse, allowing one walk and striking out three

Freshman of the Week - Autumn Fisher, USC Aiken (Fr., INF, Inman, S.C.)

  • Hit .571 in her first four collegiate games with a 1.143 slugging percentage, two home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs
  • Had hits in all four games against Mt. Olive and Barton, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs in the second game against Barton...also had two RBIs in the opener against Barton and another in the second game against Mt. Olive
  • Hit home runs in both Barton games, one of three PBC players with two homers on opening weekend...leads the league in RBIs and slugging percentage

Men's Basketball

Player of the Week - Inady Legiste, Lander (Sr., F, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)

  • Led the Bearcats to a pair of wins last week with 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game...shot 60% from the field and added 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game
  • Scored 25 points with 11 rebounds at Flagler, hitting 11 of 19 shots from the floor, his third double-double of the season...scored 22 with eight rebounds against Georgia Southwestern, adding three blocks
  • Currently ranked sixth in the PBC in rebounding, fifth in field goal percentage and third in blocks

Women's Basketball

Player of the Week - Caroline Martin, North Georgia (Grad., G, Cumming, Ga.)

  • Averaged a double-double in a pair of wins for the #5 Nighthawks with 19.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game...shot 47% from the field and 40% from three-point range...added 3.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game
  • Scored 16 with 11 rebounds in only 26 minutes of work against USC Aiken...added three steals and a block...scored 23 with a career-high 13 boards in a win at Flagler
  • Currently ranked third in the PBC in scoring and seventh in rebounding...also fourth in the league in field goal percentage, seventh in steals and ninth in assists

Men's Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week - Finn Russell, Flagler (Jr., Ipswitch, Mass.)

  • Won both the 3k and 5k at the Legends of Alachua County Invitational in his first action since the cross country season
  • Took the 3k in 8:31.56, winning by over eight seconds in a field of 31...the second-fastest 3k, in the PBC this season
  • Won the 5k in 14:37.11 against 30 runners, the fastest in the conference this season...cleared the field by over 13 seconds

Field Athlete of the Week - Antonio Caito, Embry-Riddle (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.)

  • Won the triple jump at the Legends of Alachua County Invitational, soaring 14.89m
  • It was the fifth-longest jump in program history and broke the NCAA provisional standard
  • Second-longest triple jump in the PBC this season...also ran the 60m in 7.24 seconds

Women's Indoor Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week - Taylor Stone, Flagler (Sr., Largo, Fla.)

  • Won the 800 and the mile at the Legends of Alachua County Invitational over the weekend, setting NCAA provisional times in both events
  • Ran the 800 in 2:13.02 to top the field of 26 competitors...the fastest 800 in the PBC this season
  • Covered the mile in 4:49.90, also the best this season the conference, to best the field of 26...18th-fastest mile run in Division II this year

Field Athlete of the Week - Mikaela Miles, Embry-Riddle (Jr., San Diego, Calif.)

  • Broke her own indoor school record in the triple jump with a leap of 12.52 meters at the Legends of Alachua County Invitational
  • Smashed the NCAA provisional distance once again...the longest triple jump in the PBC this season by nearly two meters
  • Finished first of 13 jumpers in the event...the fourth-longest in NCAA Division II this season

Women's Tennis

Player of the Week - Adela Latalova, Flagler (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic)

  • Made her Flagler debut by going undefeated in singles and doubles at the Florida Southern College Invitational
  • Defeated FSC's Jolie Miller 6-3, 6-3 and St. Petersburg's Vivas Valencia 6-0, 6-0 on the first day in singles, then FSC's Beatriz Costa 6-4, 6-3 on day two
  • Partnered with Laura Kepescu to beat the St. Petersburg team 7-5 and two Florida Southern teams 6-4 and 6-2

Men's Tennis

Player of the Week - Daniel Hammond, Columbus State (Jr., Whangarei, New Zealand)

  • Claimed victories at #1 singles and #2 doubles as the fifth-ranked Cougars opened the spring season with a 7-0 win over Anderson
  • Ranked #19 in the nation in singles, he defeated Anderson's Mathis Collignon 6-4, 6-1 in singles
  • Partnered with Benedek Szombathelyi at #1 doubles to beat Anderson's Collignon and Thavornchaisophon 6-2...the CSU doubles team is ranked #5 by the ITA

Men's Lacrosse

Offensive Player of the Week - Carter Wilcox, Lander (Sr., Att., Harrisburg, N.C.)

  • Scored six goals and added two assists in a 20-4 win on the road at Coker to open the season
  • Scored four of Lander's seven goals in the third quarter as the Bearcats outscored Coker 7-1 in the period to break the game open
  • His eight points was the most by any player in the PBC on opening weekend...added a ground ball

Defensive Player of the Week - Brandon Shaffner, Montevallo (Jr., FO, Louisville, Ky.)

  • Was nearly unstoppable on faceoff for the Falcons, winning 28 of 29 attempts as UM defeated Emmanuel 24-15 in the season opener
  • Set a PBC single-game record with 23 ground balls, nearly double the previous single-game high and three times more than any other PBC player on opening weekend
  • Also scored a goal, taking two shots both of which were on frame
