PBC Players of the Week for March 10

Men's Lacrosse

Offensive Player of the Week - Zane Dalpe, Lander (Sr., Attack, Windsor, Ontario)

  • Scored eight goals with five assists in a pair of wins over Walsh and Virginia State...took 11 total shots on goal, finding the net eight times for a .857 shot percentage...added six caused turnovers
  • Scored three goals with two assists against Walsh on seven shots...had five goals, including the game-winner, and three assists on five shots against Virginia State
  • Leads the Peach Belt in goals, assists and points...averaging 3.5 goals and 2.13 assists per game...ranked fourth in NCAA Division II in points per game

Defensive Player of the Week - Brandon Grusholt, Flagler (Sr., D, Annapolis, Md.)

  • Led the Saints defense in a pair of wins over Barton and #15 Saint Leo last week...had seven ground balls and caused two turnovers...also scored a goal against Barton
  • Had four ground balls and two caused turnovers against Saint Leo, Flagler's fourth win over a ranked team this year
  • Flagler leads the PBC in goals against average and caused turnovers per game...gave Saint Leo their first loss of the season while holding them to a season-low seven goals

Softball

Player of the Week - Sydnee Reaves, North Georgia (Jr., OF, Ashland, Ala.)

  • Reaves hit .400 with a 1.000 slugging percentage in a three-game sweep of Lander...had four hits in 10 at-bats with a double, a triple and a home run...had eight RBIs and scored six runs
  • Went 2-for-3 in the second game with a double and a home run with four RBIs...tripled in the third game with three RBIs...went 3-for-3 in stolen bases
  • Leads the PBC in runs scored and is second in runs driven in...also fifth in slugging, ninth in batting average and tied for fifth in home runs

Pitcher of the Week - Lakyn Phillips, USC Aiken (Sr., Pelion, S.C.)

  • Improved to 6-2 on the season with a complete-game, one-hit win at Georgia Southwestern on Saturday
  • Struck out nine of the 26 batters she faced...retired the side in order three times and set down the final eight batters she faced in order
  • Currently third in the PBC in strikeouts...also tied for sixth in wins and is 10th in opponent batting average and innings pitched

Freshman of the Week - Alyssa Hunter, Flagler (Fr., P, Highlands Ranch, Colo.)

  • Hunter posted a 3-1 record with a 1.88 earned run average last week for the Saints with 20 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched
  • Suffered her first loss of the season as she limited No. 25 Nova Southeastern to one run on five hits with five strikeouts...fanned eight and allowed three runs on seven hits against Wheeling...beat Augusta twice with three hits and a run in the first game Saturday and then surrendered just two runs on on four hits on Sunday
  • Currently second in the PBC with eight wins on the season...also fifth in opponent batting average, 10th in ERA and sixth in innings pitched

Baseball

Player of the Week - Grant Sherrod, Lander (Sr., OF, Sumner, Wash.)

  • Hit .611 over four games last week including .600 in three games against Augusta with three home runs, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored
  • Homered in three straight games, starting with a three-run shot against Wingate...had home runs in the first two games against the Jaguars, driving in five...doubled twice
  • Leads the team in batting average and RBIs

Pitcher of the Week - Daniel Fischer, Flagler (Sr., Suwanee, Ga.)

  • Tossed a three-hit complete game shutout at Columbus State in game two of Saturday's doubleheader...struck out a career-high eight batters and only walked one
  • Only three base runners reached scoring position and he retired the last nine batters in a row...induced 10 ground outs and nine more fly outs...threw 103 pitches
  • Improved to 2-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.11...batters only hitting .196 against him for the season

Freshman of the Week - Nicholas Stinson, North Georgia (Fr., 1b/RHP, Kennesaw, Ga.

  • Hit .500 in a three-game sweep of Claflin with seven runs scored, two doubles and three RBIs
  • Had two multi-hit games including a 3-for-5 effort in the opener with a double and two RBIs...scored multiple runs in every game
  • Extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest of any UNG hitter this season

Men's Tennis

Player of the Week - Rodrigo Perez Crespo, Georgia College & State University (Jr., Ourense, Spain)

  • Went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles for the #50 Bobcats in wins over Young Harris and North Greenville
  • Defeated YHC's Caleb McCurry 6-4, 6-7 (9-11), 7-6 (7-4) and NGU's Christo Timini 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, both at #2 singles...partnered with Chase Martin to beat NGU's Kantola and Hernandez 6-1
  • Improved to 6-2 in dual match singles this spring, 6-1 at #2 doubles...is 5-1 at #1 doubles with Martin

Women's Tennis

Player of the Week - Angelina Linnikova, North Georgia (Sr., Irkutsk, Russia)

  • Defeated the #1-ranked singles player in Division II with a 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 win over Ashleigh Simes of Lee...exacted revenge against the nation's top-ranked women's singles player after falling to Simes in the ITA Cup Women's Singles National Championship back in the fall...that Oct.12 loss to Simes was the last time Linnikova suffered a loss in a singles match
  • Is now 9-0 in singles matches this fall with four wins coming against players ranked in the top-5 of the ITA's national rankings...since the start of the fall season, Linnikova is 5-0 against top-25 singles opponents

Men's Golf

Golfer of the Week - Aaron Lin, Lander (So., New Taipei City, Taiwan)

  • Finished in second place at the Bearcat Classic, shooting rounds of 72-69-66 to finish nine-under 207...helped Lander to a fifth-place finish in a 19-team field that featured four top-20 programs
  • His final round 66 was tied for the low round of the day and featured an eagle-two on the par-four 10th...tied for the tournament lead in par-4 scoring at six under par and was tied for second with 15 birdies
  • Recorded his first career top-five...has played over half of his rounds at or under par

Men's Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week - Will Stone, Flagler (Jr., Largo, Fla.)

  • Won the 800 and the 1500 at the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invitational, turning in the fastest times in the PBC in both events
  • Ran the 800 in 1:53.02 to best a field of 47 competitors...set and NCAA provisional time in the 1500 with a time of 3:45.88 against 50 runners
  • Eclipsed the NCAA provisional mark by over two seconds..is the fastest 1500 run in NCAA Division II so far this season

Field Athlete of the Week - Antonio Caito, Embry-Riddle (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.)

  • Won the triple jump at the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invitational with a leap of 14.95...set an NCAA provisional mark
  • The third-farthest triple jump in ERAU program history
  • Sixth-farthest triple jump in NCAA Division II this season

Women's Track & Field

Track Athlete of the Week - Liora C. Best, Embry-Riddle (Fr., Palm Bay, Fla.)

  • Won the 400 and was on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams at the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invitational
  • Won the 400 in 56.63 and finished fourth in the 200 in 25.44...both times are best in the Peach Belt
  • Ran the opening leg of the 4x400 on a team that finished in 3:56.66, also best in the PBC this year

Field Athlete of the Week - Madison Morris, Embry-Riddle (Sr., Henderson, Nevada)

  • Was first in the discus and second in the hammer at the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invitational, posting PBC-best distances in both events
  • Won the discus with a throw of 40.86m against a field of 14 competitors
  • Was second of 14 athletes in the hammer with a toss of 42.42m, best in the conference by over four meters
